STELLAR Curriculum
The school adopts the Strategies for English Language Learning And Reading (STELLAR) curriculum in the teaching of English Language from Primary 1 to 6. This aims to strengthen the students’ foundation in literacy skills through a variety of learner-centered and developmentally appropriate pedagogical approaches using authentic children’s text.
Reading Culture @ Huamin
Through a variety of reading programmes, students are immersed in a world of reading and fun. Reading activities are then extended to discussions to stretch students’ learning beyond books.

Activities
Good English Week
Good English Week is an annual department event held over a week to promote the love of English Language through various exciting and meaningful activities. During the week, the school is abuzz with a wide array of activities through pre-assembly, assembly and recess programmes. Both students and staff are encouraged to participate in story telling events, games and quizzes which are specially planned to immerse the entire Huamin family in the application of English Language in daily life.
P1 & P2 Speech & Drama Programme
The lower primary students undergo a Speech and Drama Programme which is aimed at building their oracy skills. The programme also allows the students to build their 21st Century Competencies like communication and collaborative skills through the language activities. The students also get the opportunity to showcase their performances.
“Watch a Play” initiative at Primary 1 & 2
Our Primary 1 & 2 students are provided with the opportunity to enhance their literary knowledge, tolerance, and empathy among their schoolmates when they go on a learning journey to watch a play. During the play, students also practise theatre etiquette while enjoying the songs and dance numbers incorporated into the play.
MLEA Experiences (Primary 1 - 4)
Students get to experience outdoor lessons with their teachers and peers and write about them. With activities ranging from a virtual walk through the jungle using VR facility to clay moulding of their favourite local delicacies, students work collaboratively to experience the joy of learning.
STAR Enrichment Programme (Primary 4 - 5)
Selected students are exposed to a variety of extension activities that expose them to debating skills, writing articles for publication, public speaking and P4C skills. Through these sessions, students learn to extend their learning to real life situations and see how language can be applied in various contexts.
