School's History
Hua Mien Primary School was established with the support of the local Chinese community in the rural Sembawang area in 1945, was situated at 226, Jalan Ulu Sembawang. After cultivating countless talents for 41 years, the old school was demolished to make way for development.
Huamin Primary School derived its name from Hua Mien Primary School. Huamin Primary School relocated to Yishun New Town in 1987, and classes were held in temporary premises at Northland Primary School in 1988. Huamin Primary School was officially opened on 22 November 1991 by MP for Sembawang GRC, A/P Ho Peng Kee.
Mr Foo Chee Meng was the first principal when the school started in 1989. In December 1990, Mr Cher Kheng Wah took over the Principalship followed by Mrs Rashidah Marican in 1998, Mr William Pushpam in 2003, Mr Edmund Lim W.K. in 2010, Mdm Noorismawaty Bte Ismail in 2013. Our current principal is Mdm Loe Lai Pink, whom had joined us in December 2021.

In 2007, Huamin became the Centre of Excellence for Visual Arts in the North 3 Cluster, and in 2014, visual arts was developed as a Learning for Life Programme. The programme seeks to develop skills such as teamwork, creativity and intercultural understanding. It inculcates a sense of global citizenship and responsibility to one another.
Huamin Primary School is recognised as the first UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network School in Singapore as of November 2014. This prestigious honour was given by the UNESCO HQ in Paris. It is an affirmation of the school’s efforts in encouraging the arts and culture, as well as in promoting and keeping the environment clean and green.
Huamin is now in the N6 Cluster Schools, which is under the able guidance of our Superintendent, Mdm Sharida Binte Batcha Sahib.

2010 | Awarded Programme for School-based Excellence in Visual Arts. |
2011 | Official opening of the Visual Arts Resource Centre. |
2014 | Learning for Life Programme in Visual Arts. |
2014 | Celebration of 25th anniversary and launch of School Heritage Gallery. |
2019 | Celebration of 30th anniversary. |
