What is Dyslexia?

Who can use the resource?

This resource (What is Dyslexia?) was designed primarily for parents. However, it will also be useful for teachersschool counsellorsAEDs(LBS), and AEDs(T&L) in their daily interaction with students.

 

What is the resource for?

What is Dyslexia? aims to raise awareness of the characteristics of dyslexia, dispel some common myths, and provide strategies that parents can use to support their child with dyslexia at home.

 

What is the content?

What is Dyslexia? covers three broad areas:

  • Signs of dyslexia
  • Common myths about dyslexia
  • Supporting my child with dyslexia
  • Helping your child to have a healthy self-esteem
  • Helping your child with literacy activities (each activity is accompanied by a printable hand-out in PDF format)
  • Helping your child with homework

 

How to access the resource?

You may click here to access What is Dyslexia? on the Parents in Education website, or follow the trail below:

  • Visit the Parents in Education website
  • Place your cursor over ‘Resources and References’ (near the top of the page). In the drop-down menu that appears, click on ‘How can I support my child’s growth and development?’
