Dear Parents and Pupils,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this introductory message to you as the newly appointed Principal of Huamin Primary School. I possess over 16 years of educational experience which includes two stints in MOE HQ and several years as Vice-principal in two schools - Bedok Green Secondary School and Yew Tee Primary School. I am most happy to bring my skills as an educational leader to Huamin Primary School and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure every Huaminite’s success.
Since my arrival in Huamin Primary School, I have been fortunate to be welcomed by a host of stakeholders, especially during the school’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations. It was my privilege to be part of the school’s silver jubilee and through my interactions with the community leaders, former principals and teachers, parents and pupils, it is clear that everyone is proud to be associated with Huamin. It is a school with the mission to educate the whole child in a caring and supportive environment.
In addition, it was my honour to witness the school’s senior hockey boys play hard and achieve their aim to aspire to excel when they clinched the National Primary Schools Hockey Championships 2014 for the senior division. These boys have created history in Huamin. Also noteworthy, 5 of our pupils were involved in a Dialogue Session with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday, 7 June 2014. The pupils had the opportunity to be intellectually stimulated by participating and interacting with PM Lee and listening to his views as well as of the other participants on national issues.
"Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education." Martin Luther King Jr.
My goal for Huamin Primary is to build both academic excellence and character because that is what holistic education stands for in Huamin Primary School. Thus, along with the staff, I will work steadfastly to continue the legacy of success established at Huamin by building strong relationships with parents, pupils, staff and community partners. We will continue to focus on character education initiatives, 21st Century skills, and fostering a nurturing and safe environment for the children. We also seek to ensure a consistent implementation of innovative instructional strategies to increase pupils’ achievements and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for every Huaminite.
In Huamin, we are committed to building the foundation and motivation for life-long learning, equipping every pupil with the relevant knowledge, skills and attributes for self-directed learning, and bringing out the best in every child. I anticipate successful months ahead as my team and I support the academic, social and emotional growth of every child here in this happy learning place where we strive to provide quality holistic education for the pupils so that they learn to love and love to learn. I attest to the fact that if pupils are having fun and enjoying their learning in the classrooms, they will open themselves and their minds to true learning. I celebrate my teachers who create such an atmosphere where pupils look forward to learning, where laughter can be heard coming from the classrooms and where the pupils feel challenged to seek knowledge beyond the four walls of the classrooms.
It is my hope that we will work collaboratively to provide our pupils with the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be caring thinkers, adventurous learners and passionate contributors; tenets that will prepare every Huaminite to face the challenges of the 21st Century with a quality and successful foundation created here at our school.
