National Heritage Board Children's Season Singapore 2018

Collaboration Between Huamin Primary & Intan Museum:        An Appreciation of our Yishun Community Heritage

For the very first time this year, Huamin Primary will be participating in the Children's Season Singapore (CSS) event. CSS aims to present cultural and educational experiences that will inspire, engage and educate our young audience. It goes beyond museums and will encompass all aspects of art, culture, heritage and education via a wide range of programmes, exhibitions and engaging family activities for children of all ages.

We will be partnering our key partner, the INTAN Museum in a collaboration to promote cultural awareness and an appreciation of our Yishun community heritage. We will be showcasing Mr Lim Nee Soon who was a Singaporean merchant who promoted social and community matters, and was a respected community leader in Singapore. He was of Chinese Peranakan descent and whom the residential town of Yishun in the northern part of Singapore, is also named after (Nee Soon was the dialect name of Yishun).

In addition, we will also be showcasing the Peranakan Culture, via a display of artefacts and through hands-on activities, as well as performances by our Angklung CCA group.

The event will provide our Student Leaders such as the NE Ambassadors and Art Ambassadors, as well as our staff an opportunity to perform community service together, to promote the arts, culture and heritage to the Yishun community. The target audience includes the residents and community partners in Yishun. In addition, we would like to warmly welcome all students, parents and family members of the staff of Huamin Primary School.
